In 2011, VMware IT embarked on an effort to transform their processes for application deployment. Similar to most IT shops, VMware IT regularly prioritizes projects to a) enhance business value and b) lower operating (efficiency, effectiveness, etc.) and capital expenditures. For VMware IT, there is also the opportunity to showcase how VMware technology can impact VMware customers. For example, VMware’s own hardware consolidation from virtualization has resulted in an infrastructure that is 97% virtualized and a significant cost savings. With VMware’s products for cloud infrastructure and application management, the IT team saw an opportunity to automate cloud provisioning.

CloudStack: An OpenSource for Developing Cloud Computing systems
CloudStack | Open Source Cloud Computing via kwout
CloudStack is open source software written in java that is designed to deploy and manage large networks of virtual machines, as a highly available, scalable cloud computing platform. CloudStack current supports the most popular hypervisors VMware, Oracle VM, KVM, XenServer and Xen Cloud Platform. CloudStack offers three ways to manage cloud computing environments: a easy-to-use web interface, command line and a full-featured RESTful API. More details can be seen here

Cloud computing enables users to store files and software remotely, rather than on a hard drive or server at their office. The fact is many people may already be using cloud computing without realizing it, whether through work or personal use. Examples include web-based email like Gmail and Hotmail, communication tools like Skype, video sites like YouTube and Vimeo and music-sharing sites such as SoundCloud. more details here
